The Monkey's Desk.

My Husband found this on the side of the road about 5 years ago.

He thought it would make a good desk for the girl. She was 5 at the time, so I'm not really sure what he thought she needed a desk for, but whatever.

She used it for a while. We carried it with us through several moves. It lived in her room until I decided it didn't go with the rest of her room. And she had too much junk in there anyway. And why don't you ever put your laundry in the stupid basket? There are three baskets up here! What is that!? An oatmeal cream pie!? You KNOW you are not supposed to have food in here! When was the last time you vacuumed!! What is that purple stuff on the carpet!?! Where did you get an INK POT!?! WHY is there play dough DRIED to your keyboard!?! The CAT sleeps WhErE!?!? Oh...uh...right...so, you get the point. Anyway, I moved the desk to the shed area and it became a catch all for gardening stuff.

Now that she's in school, and has homework which is an actual need for a desk, I figured it was time to send it back up there. But certainly not looking like it did and with three years of outside nastiness on it. So I sanded all the funk off and made it nice and smooth. It took me a while to finally decide what I was going to do with it. After some paint and stain it looked much better.

Plus, I got this really pretty drawer pull at Hobby Lobby half off.

So here's the Before & After.

Woo hoo!!

My Sexy Beast.

I found this bad boy on Craigslist. Sure it was Craigslist in Huntsville, Alabama but that's only like three hours away and I've never let a little distance keep me from something I wanted. I'd just have to take a road trip.

Oh wait, I have how many kids? Three? And I have to drop them off at school and pick them up when? Every day? Oh. ***SCREEEEEETCH*** <--(that was the sound of my plans coming to a screeching halt) Well, its true that distance has never stopped me, but the damn logistics get me all the time. It was time for me to call in some reinforcement. Naturally, when something this dramatic is happening and I need some serious emotional support, the first person I call is my Mom. Plus, she conveniently lives about ten minutes from the guy with the dresser. So, my fabulous mom went and got the dresser and brought it up to me that weekend. (Thanks Mom!!!) she's pretty much the best enabler ever. Well, without further delay, I introduce to you, my dresser. Which I have lovingly dubbed, The Sexy Beast.

Sexy, no? Yesssssss.

Obviously this is not his final form. We'll just have to see how he turns out.

I Finished Something!

It took me a bit longer than I thought it would. My plan was to have them done in three days but the crazy Tennessee weather apparently wanted me to clean my house. Ugh, I have to get that garage finished!

Anyway, I gave those awesome chairs that I got at All Things Possible a makeover.

Here they are!!

Hooray!!!

Now, the Before & After!

I love them. I'm not sure if I'm going to keep them though. They don't really match anything right now. And, I'm considering a small table to stick between them. Possibly something blue. And metallic. Yeah.

Comments? Questions? I love feedback!

I LOVE it when people make decisions for me. *groan*

While I was working on yesterday's post my husband decided that I use my iPad too much.

Well, that statement's not entirely accurate. He actually decided, a long time ago, that I used the laptop too much, then my Droid, now the iPad. Anyhow, yesterday he got a wild hair up his ass and decided to be proactive in his efforts to get me to put down my iPad. So in moment of COMPLETE DISILLUSIONMENT he unplugged the modem.

I suspected what he was doing before he did it. My woman ESP kicked in or something. Then, when he walked back in the room with that special kind of smugness that he has when he thinks he's won an argument, I KNEW. So, like a good woman, I got quietly irritated with him.

Just to be clear, and so we all know how absurd this is, I'll give you a rundown of my day yesterday. I got up around 7:30am and went to Lowe's and Hobby Lobby to get some supplies for my awesome chairs. I came home, sanded and primed them, then left for the day. I had two doctors appointments, ate lunch, spent some time with a friend, then went to work out. I was out of the house from 10am to 7:30pm. Then I came home, painted the chairs, and finally came inside and sat down. Around 8pm. Shortly after that I checked my email. Then had a 45 minute phone call. THEN started working on yesterday's post.

So...not a whole lot of time on my iPad.

Here's a picture of him reading a book and hanging out with The Pants.

I'm not sure why he's crazy and I'm still waiting for an explanation from him. I'll keep you updated.

Half off furniture at All Things Possible!!!

SWEET!!

I got two of these chairs for $15!

I love the simple detail on the vertical part of the back. I'm not sure what to call those things. They're definitely not spindles and I'm pretty sure you can only have one splat. So, let's call them "splandles". <--check it out, I coined a new word.

They were covered in spiderwebs. And spiders. And egg sacs. And I had to squish them. Billions of teeny tiny spiders. *shudder* If you know me at all you know how I react when killing bugs.

Anyway, I've already cleaned them up and started the beautification. Before and after coming soon.

The current evolutionary state of an awesome lamp.

A while back I bought a lamp from the Goodwill. She needed to be rewired but she was super pretty. I brought her home, rewired her and promptly forgot about her.

I got a sudden urge to paint something the other day and this lovely lamp happened to be in my line of sight. Voila! A project was born.

Unfortunately I can't find an unfussed with 'before' picture, so we'll all just deal with an early-evolution pic as our introduction shot. K? K.

Here she is all cleaned up and taped. I scrubbed her with a Comet/water paste that i mixed up. She's ready for her makeover!

Pretty, right? Right.

I primed her with Valspar primer.

Then painted her purple! Yep, purple. It is the color of royalty you know.

I also put a couple coats of poly on just for good measure.

Well, at this point I was a bit stumped. The lovely lady didn't come with a shade and what we had been using on her was, well, fugly.

Was I right? Fugly. I wandered around the internet for a while before I came up with something that I thought would be do-able. What did I come up with, you ask? Ruffles!! Not just any ruffles. And certainly not lacy girly ruffles. Haphazard, messy, possibly weird, awesome ruffles!!

First I spray primed the fugly shade. I was going to go buy some felt and make it sort of fancy, but then I found an old white sheet in a box! SCORE.

I cut the sheet into 2" ish strips.

When you're done cutting you should have a big pile of sheet. (say it out loud, it's funnier)

Then I used hot glue to stick the strips to the shade.

I tried to place the strips so that they were glued down the center. I thought if I did that I would have two ruffles per strip and wouldn't have to glue as many.

When I was done gluing and was sure the poly was dry I pulled off all the tape and assembled her in a whir of impulsive creativity.

Tom and I named her Stella. (HI TOM!!!)

The before and after.

I love love LOVE the shade. Just not on that lamp. Crap. I'm thinking about putting a glaze on her too.

I've already acquired another shade (woot Goodwill) and am plotting it's demise, eh I mean uh, refurbishment as we speak.

So let me know what you think about Stella. Any suggestions?

Love ya, later!
